Description
One of my favorite places on Earth is Thuya Gardens in Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island. The flowers are unique and more importantly, they help bumblebees, butterflies and hummingbirds survive and thrive. This bee is harvesting pollen from a Blue Star flower. They are a very small flower. "Eryngium planum 'Blue Glitter' (Blue Glitter Sea Holly) is an outstanding perennial that thrives in hot dry planting situations and blooms in summer with tall stems of spiny, glistening blue flowers." (https://www.highcountrygardens.com/perennial-plants/unique-plants/eryngium-planum-blue-glitter) This one is not blooming yet, but that hasn't deterred the bee from collecting the pollen. Definitely going to try planting these beauties in my garden this year!
