Description
Holyrood Palace is the official home of Queen Elizabeth when she is visiting Edinburgh Scotland. Just behind Holyrood Palace is Arthur's Seat and Holyrood Park. You can walk from Holyrood Palace through Holyrood Park and up to Arthur's Seat. The view is to be magnificent as it overlooks all of Edinburgh. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to explore Holyrood Park, but the palace is quite lovely. There are many photographs of the Royals and their every day life. Holyrood Palace was also the home of Mary Queen of Scots. Mary married her second husband Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley (1545–67), in the chapel at Holyrood Palace. Her Italian Secretary, David Rizzo, was murdered by Lord Darnley in Mary's private chambers in Holyrood Palace. We were able to visit the room where the famous murder took place. It was really quite thrilling to be there and to walk the grounds after. Definitely looking forward to returning to Scotland some day to explore Holyrood Park and climb Arthur's Seat. There was a fire this past winter on Arthur's Seat. I sincerely hope that there wasn't too much damage done to the mountain. It is just so magnificent. Actually all of Scotland is magnificent.
