Description
Culloden Moor is one of the most historical and ominous places to visit in Inverness Scotland. The exhibition inside the centre is most educational and very informative. However, when I stepped onto the moor itself, I could honestly feel the presence of of the Highlanders who sacrificed their lives for the fruitless crowing of Bonnie Prince Charlie. I found the following passage about Culloden Moor on Visit Scotland website: "On 16 April 1746, the final Jacobite Rising came to a brutal head. Jacobite supporters, seeking to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British thrones, gathered to fight the Duke of Cumberland's government troops. It was the last pitched battle on British soil and, in less than an hour, around 1,500 men were slain – more than 1,000 of them Jacobites." While I was there, the wind was whipping around and the sky was sporadically dripping small water drops dropping carelessly around. It was a surreal visit. I can truly understand why this moor is so emotional and highly disturbing. I knew that I was walking on hallowed ground. Culloden Moor is a place that demands respect and protection.
