Old Leanach Cottage Culloden Moor is the last remaining cottage on Culloden Moor. This cottage was built approximately at the beginning of the 18th century. It is a single story thatch-roofed cottage and is in fine condition. I was very humbled to be on this famous Moor. When I first arrived at Culloden Moor, my emotions ran away with me. It was surreal being on the battlefield where so many Highland Troops lost their lives trying to defend Prince Charles Stuart and put him on the British Throne. Unfortunately, Bonnie Prince Charlie and his troops were defeated in less than one hour on this wide open battlefield. Prince Charles Stuart escaped the battlefield and traveled over the Highlands, finally landing on Skye where he boarded a French ship and moved back to France. He did marry and he and his wife moved to Italy. The Highland way of life was lost forever. The British Army pillaged the Highlanders for years after the Battle at Culloden Moor.
