Artist's Description
Halfway Rock Lighthouse is named as such because it is halfway between Cape Elizabeth and Cape Small. I have never been this close to Halfway Rock Lighthouse, but this trip was different because we were sailing from our home town of Yarmouth Maine on our way to Mount Desert Island. I loved been so close to this lighthouse as I generally only see it from far way. The detail of the granite rocks and the small windows was impressive. I couldn't imagine building such a structure in 1871. The granite was brought in from other locations. It took the US Government so much time to authorize the building of the lighthouse. There were two major accidents on the rocky shore, of of which incurred many fatalities. This is a much needed lighthouse and has been a beacon of safety for over 100 years.
About Elizabeth Dow
Thank you so much for visiting my Fine Art America page. Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed taking photos. Acadia National Park is New...

I so appreciate the story that went with this great photograph, how hard they worked and suffered to create these structures of safety. Amazing FAV+
