The Sparhawk Mill in Yarmouth Maine is a town landmark. Built in 1857 by the Royal River Manufacturing Company, the Sparhawk Mill is truly a landmark property. Situated right on the Royal River, it is now home to many thriving small businesses. The character of the building has not changed inside or outside at all. Walking along the Royal River path, we always view the Mill reflecting in the Royal River's calm waters. The Royal River is home to many birds, otters and fish. Living in a small New England town like Yarmouth Maine, instilled a strong sense of history and preservation. I am so happy to be able to present this photograph to you as part of Yarmouth's history and heritage.
The Sparhawk Mill has three hydroelectric turbines of which two currently run, supplying power to the building. In addition any excess power that is produced is sold. The Town of Yarmouth has a long-term plan of removing the dam and bringing the Royal River back to its natural state....
