Description
After being stuck in the fog for three days in Tenants Harbor, we finally made our way north east continuing our sail to Mount Desert Island. We stuck closer to shore on this trip which made our scenery something special. I was thrilled to see the Owls Head Lighthouse so close to our boat. It was a glorious day and the lighthouse was perched perfectly on her hill with the dramatic clouds behind her. The tide was low and we could see the rocks in the ocean, staying very far away from them! The green navigation can was on our left which tells us that we need to keep right of the buoy to avoid rocks! Ignoring these Navigational Boating Aids can be very costly.
The Owls Head Light is an active aid to navigation located at the entrance of Rockland Harbor on western Penobscot Bay in the town of Owls Head, Knox County, Maine. The lighthouse is owned by the U.S. Coast Guard and licensed to the American Lighthouse Foundation.
