Description
I visited the Culloden Moor battlefield while visiting Scotland. It was so profoundly sad and surreal to be there in person knowing the history of the moor. Approximately 1300 Jacobite Soldiers died on the battlefield, most of the men belonging to the Scottish Highland Clans. The Battle of Culloden Moor lasted only about one hour. It was the final battle between the Scottish Jacobites and the British. The Jacobite cause was lost forever and Bonnie Prince Charlie would not take the thrown away from King George II. These roses were tucked into the Culloden Moor Cairn in remembrance of the bloody battle that took place there over 200 years ago. The pain and the what could have been is still very much alive on this moor. It changed the Highland way of life forever. While walking on Culloden Moor, I could feel the wind on my face and the magnitude of what happened there was so vivid and real. It is a wide open plain where the Scottish Highlanders did not stand a chance against the guns and cannons belonging to the British Army. It was and forever will be a place of mourning for the Scottish people in Scotland and all around the world. Today, I have learned, that there are developments being constructed on his historical battle field. Houses are being constructed on the final resting place for many of the Scottish Highlanders. While visiting Culloden, I did not see any, but the battle field is vast, covering many, many miles. It would be like developing on Gettysburg Battle Field here in the US. There would be outrage and disgust of the likes we have never seen. There are many people in Scotland who are outraged by these developments being build on Culloden Field. I can see why this person felt it worthwhile to leave these yellow roses on the Culloden Moor Cairn. They are there as a reminder for those who gave their lives in vain for Bonnie Prince Charlie. Research online about the Culloden Moor Battle. It's extraordinary. After your research is completed, visit Culloden Moor and you will be in awe of the history there.
