Description
Sometimes we as photographers never know exactly what we are going to get when we take a photograph. My husband, son and golden retriever were sailing out to make our way to Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth. But as most sailors know, you really don't want to have a definite destination in mind when you set out on a sailboat. So needless to say, we didn't make it to Portland Head Light, but we did make it to Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse! I was thrilled to see all the people, boats and tourists enjoying their time walking along the breakwater. It was really grand. Seeing lighthouses from the water is really cool! But what should my wondering eyes see while editing this wonderful photo? I see Portland Head Light way in the distance! How exciting!!
The Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse is an historic caisson-style lighthouse constructed on a rocky breakwater in 1897, and is open year-round. This year, due to Covid 19, they are not conducting any tours.
Portland Head Light is a historic lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The light station sits on a head of land at the entrance of the primary shipping channel into Portland Harbor, which is within Casco Bay in the Gulf of Maine. Completed in 1791, it is the oldest lighthouse in Maine.
What a joy it is to live in Maine and enjoy all of her history while aboard our sailboat! We are truly blessed!
