Description
Visiting Salem Massachusetts the first weekend in December might seem a bit odd to you, but it was so pleasant visiting some of the most historic places in New England without all the crowds of people interfering with the sights and sounds of Salem. A visit to Salem is not complete without visiting the shore and exploring the Friendship of Salem. This boat made many voyages all over the world. She was built for the Salem mercantile firm Waite and Peirce in the South River shipyard of Enos Briggs. But her career ended when the British captured her in the war of 1812. The National Park Service built a replica of The Friendship Salem. When we visited this wonder ship, several of her masts were down being repaired and inspected. I hope to visit again when her sails and masts are back up giving off their full grandeur!
