Description
Quoddy Dam Ferry travels from Winter Harbor Maine to Bar Harbor Maine. Each day the ferry makes four round trips to help tourists and local residence travel from Schoodic Peninsula to Bar Harbor Maine. This route is a huge time saver for residents and tourists. If you were to take the trip by car, it would take at least one hour, if not more, because in the summer, the traffic is unbearable and very congested. However, by ferry, the trip would take at most forty-five minutes. The trip would be a chance to see the gorgeous Frenchman's Bay and numerous sightings of wild life and natural habitats. And best of all, the Island Explorer Bus meets the ferry! The Island Explorer Bus is the best, and FREE, way to travel around Mount Desert Island.
The ferry departs from Winter Harbor Marina and from the Bar Harbor Inn Pier. The Bar Harbor Inn Pier was under construction this summer (2015) but will be competed by 2016. The Quoddy Dam Ferry has been launching at the Harbor Side Inn. This ferry makes the trip in all kinds of inclement weather, as you can see because I shot this photograph in the densest of fog in Bar Harbor. I will plan to take the ferry next year while we are visiting Mount Desert Island. Winter Harbor is a quaint Maine town with shops, restaurants and a gorgeous water front. It is something, I am told, not to be missed.
