Description
This might look like a pond, but actually it is a portion of Mount Desert Narrows looking to Pond Island just off the coast of Schoodic Peninsula. I just love the Indian Paintbrush flowers in the foreground looking out over the bay towards Mount Desert Island. The mountain you see in the background is Dorr Mountain and Cadillac Mountain. Schoodic Peninsula is a boat ride away departing from Bar Harbor and landing in Winter Harbor. There are Island Explorer buses ready to take you on a ride through the other side of Acadia National Park. It is a wonderful, charming and beautiful part of Acadia. We happened to drive from Mound Desert Island to explore on our own without taking a bus. But, this year, I will definitely partake of the free transportation on the island. Bikes are allowed on the ferry from Bar Harbor to Schoodic Peninsula, so you can ride your bike on the Park Loop Road and on the groomed bike paths that are also available for your use. It's a wonderful way to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and explore a most overlooked section of Acadia National Park.
