Description
Pennsylvania Hall on the campus of Gettysburg College is the most impressive building. It was the main college building when Gettysburg was established. It also was the hospital during the American Civil War treating both the Confederate and Union Soldiers while classes were still being taught. Many say that this building is haunted, which I would most certainly believe. Designed in 1835 by John Cresson Trautwine, it was built in 1838 as a "temple-style edifice with four columns in the portico". The Battle of Gettysburg was fought on July 1st to the 3rd in 1863. The battle involved the largest number of casualties of the entire war and is often described as the war's turning point. I love history and to walk the grounds of the people who fought to keep our Union whole was a very moving event for me. This country is so rich with history and I think it is the most important subject to discuss and teach our children. History repeats itself, but let's pray that our country is never subjected to a tortuous Civil War ever again.
