Description
As a child you always hear about the Civil War. It seems so remote and from long ago. I doubt very much that if I had visited the Gettysburg Battlefield as a child that it would have had the same profound effect on me as it did this past April 2017. This was the bloodiest and most deadly battle during the American Civil War and to stand where the Union and Confederate soldiers lost their lives is a truly awesome experience. This battle changed our country forever! Here in Maine, the economy has never fully recovered. So many men lost their lives and their families lost their livelihood. I was only able to spend about a half a day in Gettysburg, but I will go back to experience all that this part of American History has to teach me. I love the view! To see the Gettysburg Farmhouse and barn is so remarkable. The fences look like that they have withstood the test of time. What a very special place!
