Looking to go back in time to simpler days? Take a ride on the Carriages of Acadia when visiting Mount Desert Island. We were fortunate to ride a wagon with my daughter at the helm! This lovely boy is a Dapple Grey Draft Horse. He is about fifteen years old. Dapple Grey horses start out very dark and as they age, their dapples come out over their entire body. You can see them very clearly here in the photograph. This beautiful horse is about 17 hands tall. Each horse is measured by a hand, which is about five inches per hand. He is huge!!! He is also very gentle and would not hurt a fly. What a magnificent ride along Rockefeller's Carriage Roads. We visited three of Rockefeller's bridges and learned how long each one took to build. I highly recommend taking a ride with the Carriages of Acadia the next time you are on Mount Desert Island. It's well worth the cost and you will learn a lot!
