Description
This was our warning as we entered into the deepest and largest of Maine's wilderness. They have to warn people to stay on the trail because many people have been lost while exploring off trail sights. If you have ever read the book, Lost On a Mountain in Maine, by Don Fendler, you know how dangerous it is to get lost in Baxter State Park. If you have not read the book, I suggest that you do. It is a true story that Don wrote detailing his ordeal when he was lost from his family on Mount Katahdin. He survived for nine days without food, shelter and proper clothing in the dense Baxter State Park forest before being found alive and in relatively decent shape. This sign might seem funny to some, but it's warning should be heeded and taken very seriously.
