Description
The Carriage Roads were built by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. between 1913 and 1940. He built these roads for horses and carriages so they too could enjoy the wonders of Acadia. The roads are sixteen feet wide and are well preserved by the National Park System and by Friends of Acadia. This carriage road is located on the far side of Day Mountain overlooking Seal Harbor. It is generally not very crowded and in years past, I have seen many horses and riders on this carriage road because of its proximity to Wildwood Stables.
